What these statistics cover
Electronic record adoption is now nearly universal in U.S. hospitals. The more useful question is what those systems can do across organizational boundaries: exchange information, support patient access, connect with outside technology, and carry new clinical and operational capabilities.
This page brings together recent federal measures for those areas. The figures are not measures of go-live success or clinical performance; they describe adoption and reported capability across non-federal acute care hospitals unless a statistic says otherwise.

All measures are drawn from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services health IT research published by the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy/Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. The underlying sources use different survey years and definitions, so each statistic retains its own data year and source link.
